Overthrone! is a competitive marching band production I created as an arranger, built around cinematic writing, heroic themes, and the kind of musical storytelling that unfolds like a living narrative. This is not just a collection of source material—it’s shaped as a journey, where each section feels like a new chapter in a larger story of rise, conflict, and transformation.
The production draws from All Hail to the King – The Abyss (Alan Silvestri), Let the Royal Festival Begin – Let Us Quest! (Steven Jablonsky), and An Empire Adrift along with Arise from the Ashes from Ramin Djawadi’s Game of Thrones score. These works are woven together to create a unified arc that feels cinematic, tense, and ultimately redemptive.
Originally premiered by the McGavock High School Band in 2014, Overthrone! was designed with one clear intention: to give ensembles a vehicle for true storytelling on the competitive field. The musical language is bold and aggressive when it needs to be, but it’s the progression of ideas that gives the show its identity. It moves almost like a storybook—each section revealing a new perspective, a new struggle, or a new emotional turn.
One of the most important aspects of this production is how it opens the door for narrative interpretation. Directors and designers can lean into symbolism, character arcs, or abstract storytelling, because the music itself already carries that sense of evolution. It’s built to support motion, meaning, and momentum all at once.
At its core, Overthrone! is about power—not just who holds it, but what it costs, what it breaks, and what rises after it falls.
If this production connects with your program, or if you’re interested in custom arrangements or original music for your 2026 marching band season, please reach out soon. I’d love to collaborate and help bring something truly unique to your field.
